Crossroads of the American Revolution Association was founded in 2002 as the only state-wide non-profit organization established to offer a forum for new citizen initiatives on education, historical interpretation, site use and heritage tourism; and to raise popular appreciation of the historical significance of the American Revolution in New Jersey. The Association involves local communities and other partners to revitalize New Jersey's historic cities and towns by reclaiming, enhancing and linking the state's threatened Revolutionary War sites and heritage landscapes. By promoting cultural and heritage tourism the Association hopes to gain national and international visibility for New Jersey’s irreplaceable Revolutionary War landscapes and sites and promote economic development. THE HISTORICAL COMMISSION WINS NATIONAL RECOGNITION! NJHC was named recipient of a 2007 Merit Award from the American Association for State and Local History, "for excellence in programming and outreach." The Commission's work, the AASLH noted, is distinguished by "its exemplary high standards of scholarship fostered within the public sphere. Through conferences, symposia, publications, a grants program, and programs for teachers, the commission has set the very highest standards for all who benefit from its work." History of New Jersey

 

The journal New Jersey History, founded as the Proceedings of the New Jersey Historical Society in 1845 and published under the direction of the Society until 2005, will be re-launched under the editorial direction of historians at the New Jersey Historical Commission, Kean University, and the Society. This peer-reviewed journal will be published twice annually. The editorial staff invites scholars, students, and writers to submit scholarly articles aimed at a non-specialized audience for its forthcoming issues. We welcome papers  from all disciplines—for example, law, literature, political science, anthropology, archaeology, material culture, cultural studies, and social and political history—bearing on any aspects of New Jersey’s history. We are also interested in documents, photographs, and other primary source material that could be published with annotations. November 10, 1766 - Queens College (later Rutgers University) established

November 20, 1789 - NJ becomes first state to ratify the Bill of Rights

A scholarly conference on New Jersey history to be held at the Trenton Marriott, Saturday, November 22, 2008. Our luncheon speaker: Kenneth T. Jackson, Barzun Professor of History at Columbia University will  deliver an address titled, If All the World Were New Jersey: Reflections on the Past and Future of the Garden State. Our featured morning speaker will be Dr. Ian Burrow, a noted New Jersey historical archaeologist.
